One of CReNIEO’s objectives is to undertake studies on the applicability of social justice and disseminate and share the wisdom of such deliberations. CReNIEO has organised seminars and workshops at the in-house, national and international levels.

  • Dr.K.Rajaratnam Centenary Lecture on Climate Change by Prof.Lawrence Surendra conducted by CReNIEO

  • A consultation on Research methodologies was held on 17th September. Eminent professors from the University of Madras and former VC of Bharathidasan University participated. A research study consultation was held on 28th October 2011 to frame a proposal on “Construction and conditions of Hostels for OBC students, their maintenance and functioning and performance of the students.”. Dr. V. Loganathan will be the project leader for the research study. A consultation was held 16th November 2011 on Public Health with a power point presentation by-Prof. Håkan Hydén – Professor of Sociology & Law, Lund University Sweden. The consultation was arranged by Prof. D. Sundram.

  • On August 6th 2012 a Consultation was held at Asha Nivas on Pulicat Lake –Bio diversity Marine Biodiversity Conservation and Management with reference to Pulicat Lake”. Dr. Nammawlar of NIOS was the key speaker. This was on the occasion of Dr. K. Rajaratnam birth anniversary.

  • Dr. M. Naganathan President CReNIEO introduced the topic in his presidential address. The seminar was held on the occasion of CRENIEO founder Director Dr. K.Rajaratnam’s 94 birth anniversary.

  • Dr. Jyothi Sivaganam, Head of the Department of Economics, University of Madras made a presentation on the topic on 6 th August 2015.

  • Seminar on ‘Indentured Labour to Migrant Worker’ (Gandhi’s South African Experience), and “Development and Social Media”

  • A Seminar on Liberalization and its impaction India’s Economy was organized. Former Hon. Minister for Education Thiru. C. Ponnaiyan inaugurated the seminar Mr. J. R. Ramanathan, I.A. D. presided

  • Prof. Dr. Hans George Bhok, delivered a lecture on Natural Resource Management”

  • A Seminar on Development Finance was organised and 35 scholars from the MadrasUniversity and Colleges participated. A National Workshop on Environmental Economicsand Curriculum Development was organised.

  • A lecture on Technology Transfer – Economic Development and Law, was delivered by Prof.Jay A. Ersting, University of Colombo.

  • Dr. P.R. Brahmananda delivered a lecture on ‘Fiscal and Monetary Crisis’ with the 1990 budget as the backdrop

  • Prof. T. Shivaji Rao, and Dr. Purushothama Reddy delivered lectures on ‘Environmental issues and Sustainable Development’ at CReNIEO.

  • A consultative meeting on ‘People’s Participation on Environmental Projects’ was held jointly by the Centre for Continuing Education and Extension, University of Madras, and CReNIEO

  • A two-day National Seminar on ‘Non-violent New International Economic Order – Implications of the Sevagram Declaration’ was organised, presided by Dr. C. Subramaniam.

  • Lecture and Discussion on “issue of Poverty and Income Distribution” Professor M. R. Saluja. Senior Consultant, National Council of Applied Economic Research. New Delhi delivered the Lecture.

  • Round Table Discussion on “Socio-Cultural Challenges in the next Millennium”. Keynote address by Dr. K. Rajaratnam.

  • A Seminar on “Challenges in Peoples Development”, the seminar was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Centre for the Rural Health and Social Education (CRHSE). Dr. K. Rajaratnam, Director, CReNIEO gave the keynote address.

  • A seminar on “Need Based Techno Sciences for Sustainable Rural Development through Community Action” – CReNIEO Silver Jubilee Celebrations, Various subjects were discussed and a statement is being made.

  • The Dr. K. Rajaratnam centenary lecture on Climate Change - What We Can and Should Do was organized. The topic was delivered by Professor Lawrence Surendra, an Environmental and Development Economist.

Conferences

  • A National conference on ‘International Debt Crisis Implications for the LDCs and the FutureWorld Economy’ was organised by CReNIEO. Forty outstanding economists participated.

  • A National Consultation was held on ‘Prasar Bharathi Bill on Autonomy for Electronic Media’. Eminent media persons like Mr. Chanchat Sarkar, Mr.A. G. Noorani, and Mr. N. Ram participated.

  • Dr. M.M. Thomas, former Governor of Nagaland participated in the 10th Anniversary Celebrations of CReNIEO. The Report ‘A Decade of Research and Action’ was released by Mr. J.R. Ramanathan. I.A.S. former Secretary and Commissioner, Department of Education, Tamil Nadu.

  • The two-year Diploma Course in Rural Development and Management was formally inaugurated by Mr. L.C. Jain.

  • Release of the Book “Myths and Realities of East Asian Model of Development – Lessons for India” authored by Dr. Jebamalai was released by Thiru. Murasoli Maran, M.P. Dr. M. Naganathan, HOD, Department of Economics, University of Madras reviewed the book and the first copy was received by Thiru. P.N.G Subramanian, I.F.S.

  • Inauguration of the one-month Rural Development and Management Course for Japanese students. The Course for Japanese students. The sponsors of the course were SOMNEED of Japan. Dr. K. Rajaratnam delivered the keynote address.

  • Two decades celebrations of CReNIEO and 80th birthday celebrations of the founder director.

  • The CReNIEO Governing Board honoured the Director with a citation entitled “Development Economist of the Second Millennium”. The Chief guests of the function were Dr. K. Enoch, Vice-Chancellor S.V. University, Tirupathi, Dr. Jagadeesan, Vice-Chancellor Bharathidasan University, Dr. Nagabooshanam Vice-Chancellor Dr. M. Naganathan Head of the Department of Economics, University of Madras.

Workshops

  • A workshop on ‘Perma Culture’ was held at the Centre with Ms. Francis from Australia as the resource person.

  • Workshop on the Nuclear Tests conducted by India and Pakistan Eminent research scholars, media personnel and social scientists participated in this workshop. Dr. K. Rajaratnam, Director CReNIEO gave the keynote address.

  • Workshop on “Reaching the Information Technology to the Unreached Rural Communities at Pulicat-A Socio-Technical Approach” Dr. Anandakrishnan, Chairman Tamil Nadu Board for Higher Education delivered the keynote address.

  • Workshop on Tsunami. Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Dr. Vinita Sharma, Director, DST presided.
